Elasticsearch Update
by Sebastian Hierl
The ElasticSearch implementation in Koha, sponsored by EBSCO, is making progress. The initial coding has been completed and the project is now in testing. A basic browse feature has been added and layout and design are being completed. For the browse, the aim is to have classic browse functionality that is enriched with new features such as autocomplete and eventually links to authority records and outside repositories. Authentication via RESTapi continues to be developed and we further hope that ElasticSearch will consider training the Koha developer community to further enhance ElasticSearch functionality and ongoing development.

Bug submitted for testing and feedback from David Cook:
Bug 10662 – Build OAI-PMH Harvesting Client
This patch introduces a feature that allows Koha to automatically download and import records using the OAI-PMH protocol. This may involve harvesting from a union catalogue, digital repositories, or even other Koha instances. While it expects to receive MARCXML records, it theoretically can also handle any other type of XML-based metadata such as Dublin Core or MODS, so long as a suitable XSLT is provided when configuring the harvester to transform the original metadata into MARCXML.
At the moment, this harvester can only import bibliographic records, but there may be future developments to support the import of authority records and holdings records.
